We made it, well over a thousand miles, to The Rubicon and back in one piece. It lived up to all of the hype. The scenery, the jeeping, the camping, the lakes....It was awesome!
I think I converted everyone over to using a wag bag. We all agreed it was much nicer than sitting in a stinky outhouse or port-a-john. And since those weren't available where we camped we all "wagged" it at least once. Caroline even did her part and picked up a few white flowers.
I wanted to do the original route, so we began the trail through the Wentworth Springs Road trailhead. It got down to business right away, we made it over post pile after stacking a ton of rocks. I have some video of that I'll try to get posted up. Here are a few shots along the road:
We arrived at our camp spot a little later than we wanted to the first night, due to the Jimmy Buffet approach that I took to start the trip off and the difficulty of the Wentworth Springs Road. It wasn't bad though.
We were definitely going around the Little Sluice, because, well...it's not so little and our Jeeps are.
Caroline has always liked going out in the rig, and she finally admitted that I have converted her over to this Jeeping thing on this trip. She was LOVING it:
Our stay at Buck Island Lake was amazing. The view, the swim in the lake, the relaxation from the trail, and the bear.
I'll let Shari fill you in on the details of that little experience as she was awake for most of it. Here is some evidence of what he left in the jeeps:
I think we were all quite glad that we were going down the Big Sluice rather than coming up it. I don't know how well that would have went for us. It probably would have taken all day to just go up that with just the 3 of us, that is how big the boulders were that we were dropping off.
Next it was time to cross the bridge over the Rubicon River and into Rubicon Springs.
Cadillac Hill was no joke either, it took us a bit to find the right line for everyone.
We reached Observation Point and posed in front of some of the terrain we had come across over the last 3 days. I was quite happy to get to this point as I thought it was smooth sailing on a dirt road from here, but it was still a long bumpy ride out to the trailhead.
The trail was much longer than you think it's going to be, it starts rough, stays rough and ends rough. It is relentless. But it was all worth it. We are already planning our next trip out there and what we will do differently, where we want to stay, and what we need to do to our Jeeps to make them a little more trail worthy except for Shari, her ride handled the trail quite nicely. Me and Dad need more clearance.

Ya, when I get re-covered from the trip I'll put in my two sense!
Sweet!....good write up. Looks like a good time, wish we could have made it. So what are you planning to make the rigs more trail worthy?
I want to keep the ol' girl on 33s, so I need a flat belly pan and I need to raise my gas tank up higher. I hit the gas tank and the lower control arm hangers on the frame the most. My wheelbase allowed me to navigate the big boulders pretty nicely, but it would be nice to have just a bit more clearance underneath the rig.
